ENGLISH AT CUMBERLAND

Speaking, reading and writing are fundamental to becoming a lifelong learner and achieving success.  At Cumberland, the teaching of English underpins all learning across the curriculum.  We develop the skills that our children need to be able to communicate effectively and creatively through spoken and written language.  We support children to become fluent and confident readers, with secure comprehension skills. We encourage children to develop a love of reading by sharing high quality and diverse texts and teaching topics that inspire and excite young readers and writers.  Our children understand that reading, writing and good communication skills are key to unlocking a world of opportunities, knowledge and imagination.
