Early Years Foundation Stage at Cumberland Infant School
Our Vision
We strive to create an Early Years provision where curious and engaged children thrive through strong relationships, creative and critical thinking, meaningful experiences and high-quality communication and language development. We empower children to become confident learners who are inspired to be leaders in their own learning by exploring, questioning and following their own lines of enquiry.
EYFS INTENT
At Cumberland, we believe that every child is a unique, capable learner with a natural curiosity and an innate desire to explore the world around them. Our vision is to nurture this curiosity by providing a rich, engaging and stimulating environment where children can follow their own interests, ask questions, solve problems and become creative, critical thinkers.
First-hand experiences are central to our curriculum because we know they provide meaningful opportunities for children to build knowledge, vocabulary and understanding. We value the experiences children bring with them when they join Cumberland and seek to broaden these through our enriched, project-led curriculum. Alongside carefully planned learning, we respond to children's interests, recognising that these provide powerful opportunities to deepen engagement and promote sustained learning.
Strong foundations across the curriculum are essential for supporting every child's future learning and development. We ensure that children develop the fundamental knowledge and skills in early reading, writing and mathematics to support their future learning.
We pride ourselves on the positive relationships we build with our children. These relationships provide the nurture children need to feel safe, valued, and confident to explore, learn, and take on new challenges. Our secure relationships help develop communication, emotional wellbeing, resilience, and independence, creating a strong foundation that enables children to thrive both in their early years and throughout their education.
